EAST THURROCK UNITED 0 AFC HORNCHURCH 0
News on injuries is that Michael Ramkin is back in training, and Jo Flack played the whole of the second half.
On a very hot day, Hornchurch put in a confident and polished display
against an East Thurrock side that included two ex-Urchins, Joe Keith
and Lee Hodges.
Hornchurch had the better of the play in the first half and could have taken the lead when Joe McSweeney played a good pass to Ross Wall, whose first time shot went narrowly wide. Hornchurch almost opened the scoring when Sam Lee turned quickly to gather a pass from Michael Spencer, and he neatly bobbed the keeper, only for the ball to rebound off the post. Two good crosses from Billy Coyne almost found Ross Wall, and a low cross from the right into a packed goalmouth was flicked on first time by Paul Shave, with the home keeper making an excellent diving save to keep the ball out. A Jamie Dormer shot skimmed past the post, and a similar shot from Ross Wall from outside the area skimmed the other post.
There were plenty of changes in the second half, though one was enforced when in the 48th minute Elliot Styles received a hed injury and after lengthy treatment went off. Tambeson Eyong came on and played on the right, where he was close to opening the score with a fine shot the was deflected around the post for a corner. Sam Lee then sped through the middle and was brought down, though no penalty was awarded, the ball being scrambled round the post for a corner. Joe Bouchard floated the ball over and Sam Lee’s header was saved brilliantly by the home keeper.
At the other end Darren Behcet twice made good saves whilst the home centre forward headed over from a left wing cross. Hornchurch pile don the pressure an Jo Flack ran on to a good pass from Michael Spencer, with the home keeper again making an excellent save. Despite heavy pressure the home defence held out for a goalless draw.
